The Partner visa for Australia is a combined 2-stage visa: the first stage being a provisional (temporary) visa which is followed 2 years after initial application lodgement with further assessment of the permanent resident visa (on the basis that the relationship is still genuine and ongoing). If however you have either been in the relationship for 3 years prior to application or 2 years with a child/ren of the relationship you may meet the long-term provisions and be eligible to be assessed for the Partner permanent visa at initial assessment.
A Partner visa requires substantial evidence to support the application.

Partner visas can be lodged overseas or in Australia:
- Subclass 309/100 – outside Australia
- Subclass 820/801 – in Australia (conditions may apply)
