Student Migration

Australia offers world-class education with qualifications recognised and sought after around the globe.  Recent surveys rated Australia as the 3rd most popular destination for international students after the United States of America and the United Kingdom.   Australia boasts around 1100 education institutions across the country with 8 Australian universities ranking in the top 100 worldwide.

To study in Australia you will need a Student visa - Subclass 500

This visa will allow you to stay in Australia temporarily to complete a full-time registered course of study.

While there are over 22,000 courses in Australia to choose from, international students must study at an accredited institution listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).  In enrolling in a CRICOS course you can be guaranteed that your course of study will meet the high standards expected by overseas students.

Applicants will also need to satisfy the Genuine Temporary Entrant criteria in addressing:

  • the circumstances in their home country
  • their potential circumstances in Australia
  • the value of the course to their future
  • their immigration history
  • their financial capacity and genuine access to funds to cover their tuition, travel costs, accommodation and other day-to-day expenses during their period of study in Australia

Note:

  • If you are an international student under the age of 18 years you will need to evidence that you have welfare arrangement in place during your intended stay in Australia.
  • Primary and secondary school international students can apply for this visa however the maximum study period is 5 years (with the exception of primary school which is 2 years).
  • For students under 6 years old, they may be eligible to study for 3 months in Australia as an international student by applying for  Visitor Visa - Subclass 600.

Student Guardian visa - Subclass 590

  • allows a parent/legal guardian to stay in Australia as a guardian of an international student younger than 18 years old who is studying in Australia
  • you cannot include a family member in this visa who is under the age of 6 years old
