Parent Visas

Parent visas are for persons seeking a permanent visa on the basis of being the parent of a child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen. 

• Parent – Subclass 103 
• Contributory Parent – Subclass 173/143 
• Contributory Aged Parent – Subclass 884/864
• Aged Parent – Subclass 804 
• Sponsored Parent – Subclass 870

For all Parent visas (except the Sponsored Parent - Subclass 870) an Applicant needs to meet the balance of family test which is designed to determine the extent of a parent’s links to their children in Australia and ensures only those with close ties to Australia are eligible for Parent visas. 

A parent will meet the balance of family test if at least half of their children and step-children are ‘eligible children’ or there are more ‘eligible children’ than children living in any other single country. 

Eligible children (or their children’s spouse/de facto partner) are: 

• Australian citizen; 
• Australian permanent residents usually resident in Australia; or 
• Eligible New Zealand citizens usually resident in Australia.
